Welcome to Avon City Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival Club, every Tuesday nights are Avon City Club Nights. For the small price of $2.00 per person, rock and roll fanatics and fun loving people come and socialize while learning new rock and roll dance moves.
From 8.00pm, you can learn from any of the many Avon City Club Members in the Sports Hall at The Cashmere Club (50 Colombo Street). Rock and roll dancing is taught and learned at your own pace, therefore YOU ARE IN CONTROL of the amount of dance moves you wish to learn.
There are 3 stages of lessons we aim to teach our new comers before advancing into competitions, these are:
Beginners: Basic Steps, Out Turn & Return Turn, American Spin, Bumps, Lady Turns Man Turns, Windmills with Flirt, Quarter Turn, Roll Ups, Walk Through, Shoulder Drop.
Improvers 1: Swing, Back Turn, Waist Turn, Sliding Door, Flirt, Finger Breaker, Female Side to Side, Thread the Needle, Razzle Dazzle, Tap Down.
Improvers 2: Triple Step, Church, Half Tangle, Full Tangle, Thru the Hole, Side Dip, Waterfall, Shuffle & Twist, Russian, Garden Walk.
After mastering all of these moves, you have the knowledge to choreograph a full dance routine! Knowing you have completed these few moves will encourage you to practice them and show them off at all of Avon City Rock ‘n’ Roll Dances held every 2 months of the year!
To enter competitions, you must become an Avon City Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival Club Member to be registered into the New Zealand Amateur Rock ‘n’ Roll Association (NZARRA). Avon City Rock ‘n’ Roll Club Members can help with dance routines and specialized dance moves, full outfits and costumes, fundraising or contributing travel and accommodation assistance.
